PeopleProfitPlanet are proud to launch Earth Hour Yorks, which is a campaign to encourage businesses, organisations and individuals across Yorkshire to sign up to WWF’s Earth Hour in Yorkshire and switch off lights for one hour on Saturday 27 March 2010 at 8.30pm to ‘Blackout’ our county. You can find out more info by clicking here: www.peopleprofitplanet.co.uk/earthhouryorks.

You can watch a great video about it here:

Why?
Earth Hour Yorks is part of WWF’s global Earth Hour campaign which aims to encourage over one billion people in 5,000 cities to switch their lights off for one hour on Saturday 27 March to show they want to tackle climate change. Earth Hour is vital to raise awareness about the need to take action on greenhouse gases: there’s still time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change but only if we act now.

How can I get involved in Earth Hour Yorks?
• Sign up to be part of the Earth Hour
• Join our Facebook and LinkedIn groups to connect with other businesses, organisations and individuals who have signed up to Earth Hour Yorks
• Follow us on Twitter for all the latest campaign news

And don’t forget to spread the word: Encourage your friends, family, colleagues, employees, customers, suppliers … basically everyone you know to all switch off and sign up to Earth Hour Yorks

Here’s some ideas about how you can promote it:
• Ask your local restaurant to pledge to dine by candlelight on Saturday 27 March and email us so we can promote which restaurants have signed up
• Hold an Earth Hour party (by candlelight, of course) and raise awareness with games, quizzes, food and drink. Check out the Earth Hour website for lots of fun things to do during Earth Hour including, ‘Wear something bright – turn off the light!’ or ‘Spend an hour for the Earth’
• And don’t forget to use Earth Hour Yorks to monitor energy use and raise awareness about the cost savings of cutting carbon
• Download WWF campaign packs for businesses, local authorities and universities

Why do it? It’s a good way for businesses and organisations to:
• Lead by example and promote your green credibility
• Boost staff morale and engage your staff in a local, national and global campaign
• Use Earth Hour Yorks to monitor energy use and raise awareness about the cost savings of cutting carbon
• Good PR: show that your company cares about people, wildlife and the planet
• Join up to a fun initiative
