What is Earth Hour Yorks?
We are asking you to join us, along with other businesses, organisations and individuals across Yorkshire to sign up to Earth Hour Yorks and switch off your lights for one hour on Saturday 27 March 2010 at 8.30pm to ‘Blackout’ Yorkshire.

Why?
Earth Hour Yorks is part of WWF’s global Earth Hour campaign which aims to encourage over one billion people in 5,000 cities to switch their lights off for one hour on Saturday 27 March to show they want to tackle climate change.

Earth Hour is vital to raise awareness about the need to take action on greenhouse gases: there’s still time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change but only if we act now.

Earth Hour – the global picture
Hundreds of millions of people in over 4,000 cities and towns in 88 countries turned off their lights for Earth Hour 2009. In the UK, over 200 landmarks switched off their lights, including Bradford City Hall, the Millennium Stadium, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Edinburgh Castle. Over 13 million UK citizens participated alongside more than 700 businesses, over a quarter of local authorities, more than 1,400 schools and 300 other organisations – all switching off their lights, and engaging people.
