What is BS 8555?

BS 8555 is the British standard based on the international standard ISO 14001. It provides a clear structure for companies to evaluate and reduce environmental impacts and  

BS 8555 could lead to further Environmental standards like ISO 14001 or EMAS (European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). BS 8555 is accessible to small and large companies and is administered by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

Six Phases to BS 8555

3. Developing objectives,  targets and programmes. This involves finalising an environmental policy.
4. Implementing the Environmental Management System. Roles and responsibilities are assigned.
5. Checking, audit and review. Internal audit procedures are implemented and results are fed back to the management.
6. Celebrate! EMS acknowlegement (and a head start to achieving ISO 14001 or EMAS standard) Assessment and review of how the process has been implemented in your organisation.
